The seminar will delve into the diversity and inclusion of the ageing population in a rapidly changing world. Particular focus will be placed on elderly people speaking foreign languages, whose number is growing in Finland, and who have specific needs regarding language, cultural background, functional capacity, social relationships, and knowledge of the service system, among other things.

The event will showcase different operating models from Finland, up-to-date research findings, reports, local and national strategies, as well as new guides and practical tools developed by third-sector organisations. Furthermore, the seminar will examine how diversity is reflected in work communities and how the expertise of professionals from different backgrounds enriches the Finnish service system and the daily lives of older people.

The goal of the seminar is to raise awareness, strengthen information exchange between various actors, highlight groups that often remain invisible—such as foreign-language-speaking older adults—and build understanding of the significance of multiculturalism and inclusion in an age-friendly society.

The seminar is aimed at social and healthcare professionals and developers, decision-makers and officials in municipalities and wellbeing services counties, social and healthcare sector educational institutions and students, researchers, organisations, volunteers, older adults and their close ones, and all interested citizens.
